Micardis HCT is used to treat high blood pressure. This medication is composed of a combination of angiotensin II receptor blocker and diuretic. It works by relaxing blood vessels and decrease blood pressure allowing the kidneys to eliminate fluid and sodium from the body.Store at 77 degrees F. It can also be briefly stored at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F. Protect from moisture, heat, and light. Do not store in the bathroom and keep away from children and pets.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. This medicine may be taken with or without food. Only remove the tablet from the blister if you are ready to take it immediately. It is recommended to drink extra fluids when taking Micardis HCT. When first taking the medication, you may experience an increased amount of urine or cause you to urinate often. It is a good idea to take the medication before 6pm therefore you will not disturb your sleep. Do not miss any doses, continue to take the medication even if you feel better. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications such as sulfonamide (ie. Sulfamethoxazole). Do not take Micardis HCT if you are pregnant, have severe liver or kidney problems or are unable to urinate, or if you are currently taking dofetilide or ketanserin.Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription medicine (especially warfarin), nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you have allergic reactions to medicines, foods, or other substances; if you have severe allergic reactions to angiotensin II receptor blocker or an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor (ie. captopril); if you are dehydrated, have low blood volume, low blood sodium, chloride, potassium, or magnesium levels, or have high blood calcium levels; if you have asthma, diabetes, gout, heart problems such as congestive heart failure, liver, gall bladder, or kidney problems, high blood cholesterol or lipid levels or systemic lupus erythematosus; if you recently had nerve surgery.Let your doctor know if you are taking any of the following medications: Dofetilide or ketanserin because the risk of irregular heartbeat may be increased; Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), diuretics (eg, furosemide), narcotic pain medicines (eg, morphine), or other medicines for high blood pressure because they may increase the risk of Micardis HCT 's side effects; Cholestyramine, colestipol, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) because they may decrease Micardis HCT 's effectiveness; Diazoxide, digoxin, lithium, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine), potassium, or potassium-sparing diuretics (eg, spironolactone) because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Micardis HCT; Diabetes medicine (eg, glipizide, metformin), insulin, or pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Micardis HCT.Most severe: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; confusion; decrease in sexual ability; decreased urination; depression; drowsiness; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; hoarseness; muscle pain, tenderness, or cramps; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; restlessness; seizures; severe or persistent dry mouth; shortness of breath; swelling of the arms or legs; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual thirst, tiredness, or weakness; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes.Most common: Diarrhea; dizziness; nausea; tiredness.Other: None.
