Avelox is used to treat bacterial infections caused by certain bacteria. Avelox is a type of antibiotic drug. Avelox is used in the treatment of fighting bacteria found within the body that is causing a bacterial infection. Avelox works by stopping the production of the essential proteins which the sensitive bacteria require to survive. When the protein production is stopped hopefully the bacteria will die. Store this medicine at room temperature away from moisture and heat.Do not take Avelox if you are allergic to moxifloxacin or similar medications (ie. ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, lomefloxacin, and others).Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you have a history of allergic reaction to an antibiotic, myasthenia gravis, join problems, kidney or liver disease, cirrhosis, epilepsy or a history of seizures, diabetes, low levels of potassium in your blood (hypokalemia), a personal or family history of "Long QT Syndrome", or heart rhythm disorder especially when you are being treated with quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinidex, Quinaglute), disopyramide (Norpace), bretylium (Bretylol), procainamide (Pronestyl, Procan SR), amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), or sotalol (Betapace).Try to not take antacids, vitamin, or mineral supplements, sucralfate (Carafate), or didanosine (Videx) powder or chewable tablets within 8 hours before or 4 hours after you have taken Avelox. Your skin may also be more sensitive to sunlight, therefore avoiding the exposure to sunlight, sun lamps, or tanning beds would be advised.Most severe: Dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat; sudden pain or swelling near your joints (especially in your arm or ankle); diarrhea that is watery or bloody; confusion, hallucinations, depression, unusual thoughts of behavior; seizure (convulsions); pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, weakness; urinating less than usual or not at all; easy bruising or bleeding; numbness tingling, or unusual pain anywhere in your body; fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild.Most common: Nausea, vomiting; drowsiness, blurred vision; feeling nervous, anxious, or agitated; sleep problems (insomnia or nightmares); or mild skin itching.Other: None.
