Asmanex is used to prevent bronchial asthma attacks by reducing the frequency or seriousness of the attack but will not treat an attack that has already begun. Asmanex works by preventing some cells in lungs and/or breathing airways from releasing substances that cause bronchial asthma attack (when breathing airways become inflamed or swollen). Store in a dry place at 77 degrees F. Keep away from moisture and heat. Throw away the inhaler when the foil pouch has been opened for 45 days or when the dose counter reads "00". This medication does not treat asthma attacks that has already begun because it does not work fast enough to reverse symptoms. Use another fast acting medication to treat the asthma attack. The Asmanex twisthaler is preloaded with mometasone. A measured dose of the medication will be delivered in a fine spray of powder. Do not take more than one dose if you do not feel or taste the powder. Let your doctor know if you think your inhaler is not working properly. Rinse your mouth with water and do not swallow after using the twisthaler to reduce the chance of developing a yeast infection in your mouth. Wipe the mouthpiece of the device with a clean dry tissue or cloth after each use. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and carry on with your dosing schedule.
