5 Easy Ways to Boost Your Energy at Work

Most people that work in an office most of the day know that feeling of extreme fatigue that normally happens in the middle of the day. It's frustrating because when you're tired all you want to do is just lie down and take a nap. This makes you much more unproductive, and may actually cause you to dislike your job. However, there are ways that you can boost your energy when you're at work.

First of all, getting a good night's sleep is extremely important. Make sure you go to bed at a decent time, and get all the adequate sleep you need. You could sleep from 2am-10am, but you will probably feel better if you slept from 11pm-7am.

1. Take a Nap – If you're in an office that allows you to take a quick nap, then go ahead. Try sleeping for 15-20 minutes as this will help you refresh your brain and help boost your energy.

2. Move Around – If you sit most of the day, try standing up and moving around. Go and have a quick talk with a friend in the office, maybe do a couple of quick stretches, or just do a lap around the office. By moving, even just a little bit, you will increase your blood circulation, and those pains you get in your neck and back will feel better too.

3. Have a Snack
– Bring a healthy, energy boosting snack to work every day. By eating foods that raise your blood-sugar level you will boost your energy. However, do be careful to eat the right kinds of food. Certain foods like potato chips and other junk foods do increase your blood-sugar level and energy, but only for a short period of time. After that energy is gone you are left with the burnt out feeling of a sugar crash.

Side Note- Drink lots of water throughout the day to make your energy levels stay balanced. The main reason for lack of energy is due to not enough water consumption throughout the day.

4. Deep Breathing – Deep breathing can help increase energy and boost stamina. Take a short break every so often to just stop everything and close your eyes and breathe. Diaphragmatic breathing, or belly breathing is an amazing way to re-focus yourself and boost your energy. You will also find you will have less stress. Make sure to breathe deeply and slowly to really benefit.

5. Natural Light – Try to expose yourself to natural light as much as you can. Don't use your desk lamp if you can open the windows and use the outside light. If you are in a part of the office where you can't get proper access to natural light take a break and take a walk outside. If you can't go outside at least walk over to a window and stay there for a bit.

How to stay healthy (and slim) over the Holidays

The Christmas season is famous for it's many parties, drinks, and belt-loosening dinners. Here are some ways that you can stay healthy and energized over the winter break.

Hydrogenated Fat - One way to avoid weight gain is to stay away from foods made with hydrogenated fat (like margarine) - it will make your bodies detox system slow and increase the amount of energy it requires for digestion.

Snack frequently - Every couple hours have a small healthy snack to stabilize your blood sugar. If you have regular blood sugar fluctuations your energy will be used more quickly, you are more susceptible to weight gain, and your immune system will weaken. Try having pre-prepared snacks like carrots and dip and crackers and cheese ready for when you start to get the munchies.

Eat more fruit - Heavy food can slow down your lymphatic system and make you feel more tired. Eat plenty of fruit to cleanse your lymphatic system and make you feel more energetic.

Eat healthy at home - when you aren't attending parties or dinners, have a healthy meal at home like a big leafy salad with nuts and fruit.

Exercise - It may be hard to find the time or location to do so, but it is important to exercise during the Holidays in order to maintain your stress and energy levels. 20 minutes of daily vigorous activity will get your blood flowing and keep your brain awake.

Plan Ahead - Many people feel stressed out during the holidays. This can hinder your mood and energy levels. If you plan your month ahead of time you will find that you won't feel rushed when Christmas day closes in, and therefore you will feel less stress. Try to make sure you do your Christmas shopping and gift wrapping early, and try to do any baking ahead of time so that when the time comes, you aren't rushing to get everything done.

Drink Water - During parties and dinners, be sure to drink plenty of water in order to prevent dehydration and help your body systems function properly.

Take it easy - Don't over do yourself at the snack table. Eat in small amounts and go easy on the sugar - of course you are allowed to treat yourself every now and then.

Get lots of sleep - We tend to feel more sleepy during the winter months. Its important to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night to feel your best. To avoid burning out - take a nap when you begin to feel drowsy. This will ensure that you have enough energy for upcoming parties and evening events!

Take your Vitamins - Vitamins B and C are both reduced by alcohol and stress. To make sure that you are getting the vitamins and minerals you need, take vitamin B-Complex and vitamin C or a multivitamin. Enough vitamin B in the body helps reduce symptoms of stress.

6 Foods that Improve Your Sex Drive

1. Dark Chocolate

Eating Dark Chocolate is a great way to help your body release feel-good hormones which are released during sex and physical activity. Cocoa itself is a stimulant which makes the skin more sensitive to touch.

Be careful - researchers found that cocoa stimulates the same brain centers as cocaine, but having too much will reverse the effects. Stay away from white chocolate and eat small amounts of dark chocolate which is packed with more cocoa.

2. Steak

The protein in Sirloin steak will boost the body's energy levels and heighten the body's sensitivity levels giving you a more effective alternative to caffeine and sugar - which lower the testosterone levels in the body.

3. Chilli Peppers

Caliente Chilli Peppers will cause the heart to speed up and the skin to flush with blood. Chilli peppers help the flow of blood throughout the body raising your excitement levels.

4. Blueberries

Blueberries are a natural version of Viagra. They also help remove excess cholesterol from the blood reducing the cholesterol levels being absorbed into the arteries - a great way to keep the circulatory system healthy and flowing smoothly.

5. Vanilla Ice Cream

Half a cup of vanilla ice cream has the ability to increase your muscles ability to reserve energy which will boost your libido. The muscles in the sexual response system rely on calcium to fully operate. The calcium in the milk will help you feel fully charged.

6. A Glass of Wine

It's true that a glass of wine will help you relax at the end of the day. Alcohol acts as a depressant in the brain which will lower your inhibition to restrain arousal and one glass of wine will cause the blood vessels to relax. Any more than two glasses of wine will reverse the effects.

4 Easy Tips to Help you Sleep Better

Get into a routine - The best way to have a more fulfilling sleep is to set a regular sleep schedule for yourself. Avoid fighting against your biological clock by figuring out how many hours of sleep your body needs and then sticking to a schedule... even on weekends. Try to go to bed before midnight. Studies indicated that the hours you sleep before midnight are twice as important as the hours you sleep after midnight.

Avoid caffeine - Caffeinated drinks, coffee, and tea, will keep your mind running longer than you think. Stay away from caffeinated drinks in the evening and before bed.

Don't eat before bed - a light snack may be good before going to bed, but don't have full meals. Digestion takes a lot of energy and will keep you stimulated. If you are hungry before bed, try having a snack with a lot of carbohydrates that will trigger the serotonin hormone in the body making you feel sleepy.

Exercise - Exercise is great for sleep and stress. People who exercise regularly are less likely to develop insomnia than those who don't. If you work out for as little as 20 minutes a day, you will feel more relaxed and stimulated. Try to exercise early in the day so you naturally become tired by the evening. Exercise induces the body to release melatonin which is a feel-good hormone that will make you feel more relaxed and content.

Why Breakfast is The Most Important Meal of The Day

Many people, including me, have heard their mother tell them that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." However, many of us have never actually gone out of their way to discover why this is true. Well, the saying itself is true, but for many reasons that even your mom probably didn't know.

When you go to sleep your body goes about 6-10 hours without food or drinks, basically your body is running on empty when you wake up. Therefore, it is extremely important to refuel with a big, but healthy breakfast.

Try eating foods with glucose in them to supply enough energy for the day. Why? Because glucose is the body's source of energy, much like fuel for your car. Your brain feeds on glucose, so by eating a big meal consisting of foods that contain glucose your mind will be sharper and you'll be able to concentrate better. Furthermore, glucose powers your muscles. With a good breakfast your body will have more energy and you will feel less tired. However, the crucial part about breakfast is to avoid the bad items of food like donuts. Donuts will give you a spike in glucose and energy however; it will be short lived and will be followed by a huge sugar crash. Instead try looking for some foods with 100% whole grains because the digest evenly and give you energy throughout the day.

Additionally, if you are trying to lose weight, but think skipping breakfast is one way to do it, you are sadly mistaken. Many studies show that adults and children who skip breakfast are more likely to be heavier than those that have breakfast every day. Furthermore, studies have shown that children who eat breakfast do better in school because they are more focused and are able to concentrate at a higher level.

Next time you hear someone tell you that breakfast the most important meal of the day, or if you are telling someone else, also tell them why. Makes you think, what else was mom right about when you were younger?
