What is Inderal LA used for?

This medicine is for the treatment of high blood pressure, used alone or with other high blood pressure medicines; the long-term treatment of a specific type of chest pain (angina pectoris); the prevention of migraine headaches; and the management of other heart problems.

When should Inderal LA not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you are in heart shock you have a slow heartbeat you have bronchial asthma you have congestive heart failure

What precautions should I follow when taking Inderal LA?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition (eg, history of heart, kidney, or liver problems)

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Inderal LA?

There have been cases of worsening chest pain along with possible heart attack following the sudden stopping of this medicine. Do not stop taking this medicine without the supervision of your health care provider.

What are the side effects of Inderal LA?

Most severe:  Allergic reaction (rash, fever, sore throat, tightness in the throat, difficulty breathing).

Most common:  Lightheadedness; depression; sleeplessness; weakness; fatigue; vision problems; hallucinations; vivid dreams; nausea; vomiting; stomach cramps; diarrhea; constipation.

Other: Abdominal cramps, colitis, congestive heart failure, constipation, decreased sexual ability, depression, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, disorientation, dry eyes, fever with sore throat, hair loss, hallucinations, headache, light-headedness, low blood pressure, lupus erythematosus (a disease of the connective tissue), nausea, rash, reddish or purplish spots on the skin, short-term memory loss, slow heartbeat, tingling, prickling in hands, tiredness, trouble sleeping, upset stomach, visual changes, vivid dreams, vomiting, weakness, worsening of certain heartbeat irregularities

How should I take Inderal LA?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not crush or chew this medicine. Stopping therapy: This medicine may mask the signs of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). If thyroid patients stop taking these medicines too suddenly, symptoms of hyperthyroidism (eg, a rapid pulse) may occur. Stopping this medicine suddenly has caused worsening of angina (chest pain) and heart attacks. Other serious withdrawal symptoms include sweating, pounding in the chest, and headaches. Do not stop taking this medicine without the supervision of your health care provider. Diabetes patients: This medicine can mask signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and change blood sugar levels. It may be necessary for your health care provider to change your dose of diabetic medications while taking this medicine. This medicine may interfere with the glaucoma screening test. Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions may be more sensitive to allergens while taking this medicine. These patients may not respond to the usual dose of epinephrine. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

How should Inderal LA be stored?

Store at room temperature (around 77 degrees F). Protect from light, moisture, freezing, and excessive heat.
