What is Advair Diskus used for?

This medicine is used for long-term to prevent asthma. It is not used to relieve sudden asthma attacks.

When should Advair Diskus not be taken?

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you are having a severe asthma attack

What precautions should I follow when taking Advair Diskus?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine or dietary supplement if you have heart problems or high blood pressure if you have a history of seizures if you have diabetes if you have an untreated systemic fungal, bacterial, viral, or parasitic infection if you have herpes simplex of the eye if you are currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor within the last 2 weeks if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Advair Diskus?

Use extreme caution when switching from an oral steroid medication to this medicine. During periods of stress or a severe asthma attack, contact your doctor. You may be instructed to use oral steroid medications. Carry a warning card (Med-Alert ) to inform others that you have asthma.

What are the side effects of Advair Diskus?

Most severe:ÿ Allergic reaction (giant hives, rash, breathing difficulties); change in heart rhythm; growth suppression in children; worsening of asthma; swelling of the throat; choking; cataracts; pounding in the chest; glaucoma; increased inner eye pressure.

Most common:ÿ Upper respiratory tract infection; throat irritation or swelling; sinus inflammation; hoarseness; bronchitis; cough; headache; nausea; vomiting; stomach pain or discomfort; diarrhea; muscle pain.

Other:ÿ Unusual taste; thrush (oral fungal infection).

How should I take Advair Diskus?

How much medicine you use and how often you used it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient information packet that comes with this medicine. Be sure that you know how to use the inhaler device before taking it. Rinse your mouth out after inhaling this medicine. Do not use this medicine with a spacer device. Never breathe out into the medicine provider (Diskus). Do not try to take the medicine provider apart. Always use this medicine in a level, horizontal position. Never wash the mouthpiece or any other part of the Diskus. Keep it dry and always keep in a dry place. Use this medicine at regular intervals (usually morning and evening, approximately 12 hours apart) or as directed by your health care provider. Throw away this medicine 1 month after removing the foil overwrap or when the dose indicator reads "0". Contact your health care provider immediately if any of the following occur: Worsening of condition; need to increase the number of inhalations of other asthma medications; pounding in the chest; chest pain; fast heartbeat; tremor; nervousness. Avoid exposure to chicken and measles while taking this medicine. Contact your health care provider at once if you become exposed. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before using this medicine. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any dietary supplements or herbal preparations. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

How should Advair Diskus be stored?

Store between 68 and 77 degrees F in a dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. The inhalation device is not reusable.
