What is Axid used for?

This medicine is used in adults to treat ulcers of the stomach and upper small intestine. It is also used to treat GERD (the bubbling of stomach contents into the food pipe, which causes heartburn). Doctors may occasionally prescribe it for other reasons.

When should Axid not be taken?

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications

What precautions should I follow when taking Axid?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine or dietary supplements if you have kidney disease if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Axid?

Before starting treatment with this medicine for gastric ulcer, exclude out the possibility for gastric malignancy.

What are the side effects of Axid?

Most severe:ÿ Chest pain.

Most common:ÿ Headache; stomach pain; pain; weakness; diarrhea; nausea; gas; vomiting; indigestion; dizziness; sleeplessness; runny nose; sore throat.

Other:ÿ Back pain; fever; constipation; dry mouth; loss of appetite; tooth disorder; muscle pain; abnormal dreams; drowsiness; anxiety; nervousness; sinus infection; increased cough; rash; itching; vision problems.

How should I take Axid?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take without regard to food. This medicine may be taken with antacids, if needed. It may be necessary to make significant changes in your lifestyle and diet to assist in the treatment and prevention of ulcers and other digestive problems. This can include stress-reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes. Notify your doctor if there are any symptoms that suggest a bleeding ulcer, such as black, tarry stools or "coffee-ground" or bloody vomit. Lab tests or exams may be required. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking or change the dose unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

How should Axid be stored?

Store Capsule between 68 to 77 degrees F. Keep tightly closed.
